Reporting to the Emergency Department Manager, the Trauma Nurse Coordinator coordinates the activities of the Trauma Service with other departments in the hospital. Ensures quality and consistency in the delivery of care to all presenting trauma patients. Acts as liaison between the Trauma Service and other intra-hospital; departments, local hospital, the community and other trauma centers within the area. Provides orientation and serves as a liaison resource for MacNeal staff to assist with understanding of the trauma program. Performs the duties of a Staff Nurse as required.
Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois.
Four (4) years of previous experience in an Emergency Department Trauma Center.
Satisfactory completion of Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Mobile Intensive Care Nurse or ECRN courses and Trauma Nurse Specialist.
Current CPR card.
Level of knowledge normally acquired through completion of an accredited school of nursing program. A Bachelor's Degree in Nursing is required, Master's Degree preferred.
Demonstrated ability for problem solving, decision making and establishing an effective rapport with personnel, patients, families, physicians and colleagues.
The analytical ability necessary to assess a patient's condition and utilize the nursing process and professional judgment in providing comprehensive care to patients.
The interpersonal skills necessary to train and orient employees to Trauma and to interact effectively with patients, families, physicians and other members of the health care team and agencies.
The ability to perform effectively and efficiently under the pressure of stressful or emergency situations.
