Position Overview:

Sutter Delta Medical Center is a 145 bed medical facility providing diagnostic and therapeutic treatment services for the eastern portion of Contra Costa County which includes the communities of Antioch, Brentwood, Bethel Island, Byron, Discovery Bay, Knightsen, Oakley and Pittsburg. Services are provided for newborns, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
The primary role of the staff RN is to coordinate the delivery of care for the patient population they serve from admission through discharge. Included in this delivery of care are all aspects of the physical, psychosocial, safety and educational needs of the patient and their family/support system. This function is performed in collaboration with an interdisciplinary team including but not limited to nursing peers, attending physicians and ancillary support services. The staff RN uses the nursing process, medical therapeutics, technology and personal interventions to accomplish this.


Education, Licensures and Certifications:
  • Associate’s Degree Required
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree Preferred
  • Valid California RN License Required
  • NRP required; Pediatrics NRP is Preferred
  • Advance Fetal Monitoring Certification Required upon hire or within 270 days from hire if part of a training/transition program
  • BLS Required
  • ACLS Required
  • Certification in Specialty Preferred
  • Certified  Lactation Educator (CLE) Preferred
  • EPIC documentation Preferred


Experience Requirements:
  • At least six months experience in Labor and Delivery or be enrolled in training/transition program
  • Experience in Maternal/Child acute care setting
  • Experience in Antepartum care
  • Experience in Intrapartum care (Labor and Delivery)
  • Experience in the recovery of the vaginal and cesarean delivery
  • Experience in circulating cesarean sections
  • Experience in the recovery of the patient with Regional anesthesia
  • Experience in breastfeeding education and support
  • Experience in the care of the Newborn and Postpartum patient
  • Must learn operations of relevant equipment in unit
  • Circulating Experience Required 
  • Scrub Experience Preferred
Skills and Knowledge:
  • Basic Medical/Surgical nursing skills
  • Basic competencies in the nursing process and pharmacology
  • Basic knowledge of adolescent, adult and geriatric population
  • Ability to work with all levels of nursing personnel and assist them in a resource capacity
  • Effective English written and verbal communication skills
