Position Overview:

POSITION SUMMARY

Provides imaging and patient care services at defined levels to patients. The incumbent processes images/ film, prepares records of service performed, makes adjustments, and minor repairs on equipment. The incumbent ensures effective communications and documentation. Additionally, the incumbent uses independent judgment to operate and be accountable of sophisticated equipment. The incumbent produces optimum quality radiographs within the standards department regulations and in a manner consistent with a safe, professional environment for all.

 

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Assesses and educates patients according to specific department protocols.
  • Implements radiation protection and safety standards to minimize radiation exposure to staff and patients.
  • Maintains mandated continuing education requirements.
  • May be required to train / precept students and new techs.
  • Operates a variety of complex stationary and mobile diagnostic equipment.
  • Positions patients and selects anatomic and technical exposure parameters accurately.
  • Prepares and administers contrast media and/or medications within accepted scope of practice, and applicable state/federal regulations.
  • Prepares for and assists the physician in a variety of imaging and/or invasive procedures including computed tomography.

Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

 

Education/ including Licensure/ Certification/ Registration

  • ARRT Registered Technologist, {RT(R)} in good standing.
  • Additional ARRT certification in Computed Tomography (CT) preferred.
  • BLS Healthcare Provider.
  • State Licensure (CRT) is required.
  • Fluoroscopy license as required by state regulations (within 6 months of hire).
  • Graduate of a JRCERT accredited educational program in radiography.

 

Knowledge:

  • Must be knowledgeable of technical factors and radiographic views.
  • Broad-based knowledge of crosssectional anatomy and physiology is required.  
  • Understands radiation protection techniques to minimize radiation exposure to staff and patients.
  • Able to recognize potential abnormalities and prioritize accordingly.

 

Experience:

  • Previous experience as a Registered Radiologic Technologist is required.
  • Prior work experience in an acute care facility is preferable.
  • Specific CT experience and prior work experience in a hospital setting is required.

Should be competent in:

  • All portable procedures including surgery setting
  • All C-arm procedures
  • Fluoroscopy
  • Minimally invasive procedures such as cysto-urethrograms, lumber punctures, myelograms, arthrograms

 

Skills:

  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work unsupervised or with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a rapidly changing and challenging environment and take appropriate actions in emergent situations.
