The Nurse Educator works collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team and is responsible for providing comprehensive and age appropriate care/consultations to patients during periods of illness and wellness. This position provides support and guidance linking patients and their families to healthcare services that meet their needs and serving as a communication bridge among and between patients, families, and members of the cancer care team. Additionally, this position tracks reports for oncology navigation program activity and monitors designed clinical quality measures
Caring and Clinical PerformanceUtilizes the caring behaviors of empathy, active listening and cultural sensitivity and supports patient dignity.
Conceptualizes, develops, and implements effective training programs for delivery of safe patient care and employee development.
Possesses knowledge in oncology acting as a clinician, care coordinator, educator, advocate, counselor, and consultant to achieve optimal outcomes.
Demonstrates use of clinical skills and expertise in site specific cancer diseases, treatment options, research protocols and psychosocial impact of disease on recovery.
Coordinates regulary scheduled educational sessions for newly diagnosed cancer patients. Promotes availability of individual patient and family consultations upon completion of the orientation session.
Reviews treatment plans, available treatment options, applicable research protocols available, what to expect in terms of side effects and outcome, what rehabilitative, support, and complimentary services are available.
Ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences including professional staff, patients, community, media, and other external agencies.
Serves as a liaison or link between providers offering support
Promotes and practices in an environment that fosters two-way communication between those in leadership and those providing hands on care.
BSN required, MSN preferred. Must have current IL RN License. 3+ years of clinical experience in related field required.
